You have a bad cmos battery inside the ThinkPad. 161 and 163 are the codes saying the date and time aren't set, the cmos battery keeps those and other settings stored in memory. Battery goes dead and that information is lost.

You need to replace that battery, it's a tiny thing, like a watch battery but it is probably covered in mylar, has a wire coming out and plugs into a connector. Doesn't cost much, but you need to figure out what model ThinkPad you have, get the part number for the battery and replace it. The hardware maintenance manual for your model will have a parts list and have instructions on how to replace it.

Lenovo.com has the information online in their support section. Cmos batteries are referenced as 'backup battery' or sometimes "RTC battery"

Can you describe what is happening when you turn it on? Anything unusual, error messages, blue screen, anything at all?
