Anyone have experience with baby that vomits solids at 6 months?

Hi,

My 6 month old girl started solids 2 weeks ago. She will keep the solids in for at least 30 minutes and up to an hour then pukes it all up. She is having banana or avocado or carrot or baby rice. She has always posited a little breast milk after feeds. When she pukes now it is the whole feed. Breastfeeds are staying in. She is not dehydrated at all. Any suggestions of foods to avoids or try would be great.

My son used to vomit up the majority of his food at this age, but to be honest it's not really something to worry about at this stage, they are still getting most of their nutrients/calories from the milk they are taking. When weaning begins, it's all about getting them used to different flavours/textures, and not much about getting a full meal into them (think of the portion sizes, hardly substantial). If she is still her usual self, not unsettled after eating, and is still taking in milk and fluids and producing wet and dirty nappies, then try not worry too much. Give her tummy time to adjust to the new experience and she will probably take to food as weaning continues.

A babys stomach is tiny, the size of their own clenched fist I believe. Lessen the amount of solids you are giving for a time and see if that makes a difference. Could also be reflux, my son had it really bad, could barely keep anything down, even bottle feeds. Try keeping bubba sat upright for at least an hour after solid feeds. If it persists or she seems to be losing weight, consult your paediatrician or midwife :)

All babies are different, she may not be ready for solids yet, dont worry about that, she'll be snarfing down everything before you know it x x
