Regarding Governor Schwarzenegger putting State Employees on minimum wage ?

WHY is there not a law that mandates that the State LEGISLATURE be placed on minimum wage the DAY the budget is late ?? Could the citizens of California get a proposition on the ballot that would enact such a law ?? I understand that the professional legislators would never pass it themselves !!

Update:

Okay, the "Granola-Heads" live in a different part of the State... we're a Republican district - raising livestock, growing grapes, and until the liberals stopped it we used to do careful and selective logging.

I understand the State government is bloated, but I STILL would like to go to the DMV and spend less than 6 hours to renew the registration on my truck.

If your state assembly is typical of others around the country, most legislators receive a lot of money or in-kind support from sources other than their pay. Influence buying is unethical but some legislators could not live without some sort of support other than their state pay. So putting the legislature on minimum wage might not have that much impact.

In Texas, legislators are paid based on the amount of time they spend in session, which is supposed to be about four or five months every two years. That comes to around 7 or 8 thousand dollars a year. But they do wield a lot of power and that power is negotiable. Find the special interests that are holding up the budget and find a way to hit them in the pocketbook.

The best cure for a legislature that responds to special interests more than to the interests of its citizens is a trip to the ballot box come election time.

You granola heads should be voting ALL of those people OUT of office.

California has been ran into the ground and is a microcosm of what Obama & Biden touted as our "recovery" plan for the recession we are in.

ONCE AGAIN.... let history and facts guide us, not blind and unfounded "hope and change" rhetoric.

THANK God Ahnold put gov employes on minimum wage.... that was PRECISELY the place to start.

in order to get it on a ballot you need a certain amount of signatures. you would need people in every county collecting signatures for a long time. politicians are not going to let it happen. Arnie tried once to with hold their pay til a budget is reached once.
