What is the meaning behind Stairway to Heavan?

I've heard there is no meaning. People think it's all satanic and whatnot, but in an interview, Led Zeppelin said that it was completely random. Plant made up the lyrics as he was getting ready to record them, and later admitted that he didn't really know what they were supposed to mean; he put them together in a rush.

There doesn't seem to be any over-arching meaning behind the song as a whole. However, a few lines/verses may bear some meaning.

Well there are many meanings behind it, people say it has to do with god and the bible, others say it was about a woman who is lost on earth or something...its what ever u think it is to be

You can't buy your way into heaven, as in there aren't any easy ways or shortcuts. The teachings of god and the bible have to be sincere in your heart to be able to get into heaven.

Um, we are buying a stairway to heaven?
