Any Ukulele players out there that can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

My ukulele is in tune, but whenever I go to play a chord no sound comes out except this plucked sound.. It looks like I'm pressing down too hard that the string is unable to vibrate. How do I fix this??

Update:

it's a Mahalo u320c with nylon Martin strings if that makes any difference

Make sure you are pressing down between the frets (raised metal ridges) and not on the frets themselves.

do you by chance have a really cheap uke that you paid less than $10 for?

Some really cheap ones you find are actually props and not instruments.
