re post about spitting up...didnt get any answers this morning?
my daughter is 3.5 months old and we have never had a problem with her spitting up. she might spit up once every 2-3 days at the most.
well the past week and a half she has been spitting up sooo bad! almost everytime we burp her she does, and just out of nowhere she will, even if its been over an hour after shes ate.
i know shes not overeating because she is still drinking 4oz most of the time which she has been on for about 2 months, she sometimes drinks 5 but she always stops when shes full.
why would she be spitting up all the sudden? and its not like normal spit up, its like water mixed with formula and drool or something.
no, she hasnt had any signs of a cold at all....her nose hasnt been congested at all and she hasnt had a fever. but i have noticed that 2-3 times a day she coughes, not a "powerful" cough, but like she swallowed wrong or something
shes on enfamil genlease and is doing great on it. shes been on it since she was about a month old.
and she has been drooling soooo much (hence the drool in her spit up)
and i noticed you answered my other question about nipple stages...and it made me wonder if that could be adding to the problem, but she seems happy on stage 1, but it also takes her a good 20 minutes to eat 4oz
the first thing that i thought was it could be reflux, but she dosent cry on anything before she spits up and would it just now be starting? i know some babies (like one of the answerers kids) dont act like reflux hurts, so maybe thats the problem. she goes back to the doctor around the 21st , if its not better by then ill talk to him about it.

Spitting up more around 3-4 months is completely normal. Our baby didn't spit up at all until around 3 months, and then she started spitting up a lot, even a long time after she ate. Our pediatrician told us that it is very common for spitting up to get worse, then get better as they get closer to 6 months. Although, some babies spit up until they are a year old.
As far as the consistency of the spit up, it is also normal developmentally for babies to start producing more saliva around 3-4 months. So, you could just be seeing a combination of the spit up and drool. The extra drool doesn't necessarily mean they are teething....our baby drooled a lot and didn't get teeth until 8 months :)
But, if you are still concerned, I would ask your pediatrician - that is what they are there for!

Does she have a cold at all? A lot of times post nasal drip can get piled up in the baby's throat and cause them to gag and ultimately spit up. That would explain the "drool" consistency.

Is she taking in more air with the nipple (too slow flow, too fast flow?), have you changed her formula?, is she producing more drool (sometimes associated with teething)?
As long as she doesn't seem upset with the spitting up it is fairly normal. My 2.5 month old has terrible reflux --- but is a happy spitter. I probably change his clothes 5 times per day and wash his car seat cover 2 times per week. But, it doesn't bother him in the least.

If it's not a cold, maybe allergies then? I know adding milk products to nasal drip can be pretty icky. and you don't have to see dripping from her nose for her to have post nasal drip. it just runs down the back of her throat, enough to make her cough from time to time, and when she drinks the formula, it all thickens up and she spits it up. if it gets worse, you may need to take her to the doc to get some advice on allergy meds. My Ashley was on zyrtec since 2 months.

It sounds like she might have a touch of reflux. Both of my children have had it. If she's not crying in pain, your doctor might not do anything about it. If the spit up causes her to start losing weight, they may put her on a medication like Zantac or Prevacid(both of mine were on medication).
Google infant acid reflux and see if this sounds like your daughter. Try keeping her propped up after feedings for about 15-25 minutes. Burb in between oz's of formula. You can even talk to your pediatrician about switching to a formula for reflux. It has added rice in it to thicken it up, Enfamil A.R. and Similac Sensitive R.S. (s)he should have samples in the office for you to try before you purchase it.
Good luck!

Burp her before her feed and see if that helps. If the milk goes down on air she will bring up some of her feed. Have you changed her formula? It could be giving her more gas.

its because shes shes getting ready to get her baby teeth , all baby's drool and some still after a year or two , if you have any concerns why don't you talk to your doctor about it? i think shes fine but you still never know you should just have her checked so it can calm your nerves

It could be just overfill. My son did that and my dr said not to worry about it.
If you're concerned you should take her to the dr.
