fishing for catfish: bigger bait equals bigger fish?

will putting a larger shrimp, liver, slab of tilapia, or whatever get me bigger catfish? I want to catch something at least 15 pounds or larger. Also,,,how does the guy on river monsters keep small fish from eating the bait he throws out? I guess i want my own river monster,,,,

is bigger bait the answer? thanks.

That's the philosophy, Big bait = Big fish. Will it happen? well, who knows...?

Not true catfish eat by smell so instead of using big bait just use big stench. In order to catch a big catfish you need to find the right location not just the right bait. On river monsters Jeremy Wade puts many hooks into his bait so that little fish cant nibble it off.

Bigger bait doesn't guarantee bigger fish. I've caught very small fish on large baits, and very big fish on little baits.

TV shows are very "sketchy". More times than not, fisherman with their own shows fish private waters or very lowly pressured waters. Also keep in mind, TV shows are almost always edited, meaning they will normally only show the notable fish.

Instead of going for huge globs of bait, consider learning a bit more about the waters that you fish. Do you know where the majority of the cover is? drop offs? fish patterns? Taking all of these things into consideration has more potential of producing bigger fish than simply switching to bigger baits.

best thing you can do is switch to live bait and bigger is better. not too big though. if you ever watch river monsters unplugged then he will tell you at the bottom how he caught sever smaller fish before the big one theres even an episode where he is on the Congo looking for big cats and he catches nothing. also make sure you have a sturdy enough line i recommend braided line. just be patient even the little ones can be fun to catch

it is been an prolonged time on account that i've got fished for bullhead, yet i've got consistently concept they have been relaxing. and that they are tasty. i've got caught them as much as fourteen", yet i might say 10-12" is a first rate fish. A 24", 11# brown bullhead became caught in Washington state various years in the past. there became a lot of controversy on the time simply by fact "they simply don't get that bit". seems such as you're fishing suited. i've got consistently used evening crawlers. i might tighten the line, set the pole down propped on a rock or my address container, and whilst it fell, set the hook. it is sturdy for evening fishing. it is proper to enable them to nibble for a whilst, to make certain they get the hook of their mouth. i think of i might desire to flow returned quickly.

No bigger bait is not always the answer...As long as it stinks bad, the catfish will find it

What u should use is live shad or cut shad or cut sucker that works great for me but the problem is that u have to fish all night and stick to those baits and if ur lucky u will only catch one fish but it will be big everything else will get eaten buy smaller fish or the eels will get to them
