Allowed firearm purchase in california, denied in tennessee?
I was recently denied purchase of a firearm in Tennessee. Once appealed I was given a conditional proceed. The dealer would not sell me the firearm with the conditional proceed. The reason for the denial was because of a crime I had committed at the age of twelve that was not properly taken care of by my parents.
How does a rural gun friendly state like Tennessee deny for such reasons, when a gun hating overcrowded state like California Approves?
I allready own many guns and was issued a TN state Guard Card, if TN's background checks were so throrough they could have seen that. I have been in no trouble with the law since my initial firearm purchase. I will find a dealer that will sell to me.
I am already working on getting the charge expunged. I was told by a lawyer in Stockton that they do not seal records, even if the charge was expunged, anyone who looks would still see it, but that it was dismissed. I have a feeling that I will still have trouble with the state of Tn regarding firearm purchase even after I have the charge expunged.
Patricia, I will just go buy a firearm at a gun show where I know I can find a dealer that will oblidge me. When will they learn that criminals don't buy guns from dealers...

Well, most of California is rural, and it is not as "gun hating" as many would portray it (unless your definition of "gun" is "assault weapon"). I cannot speak to TN law, but it is likely that your juvenile record can be sealed. That is not automatic in CA upon turning 18, you have to petition for it. If the petition is granted (and most are, when the petitioner is eligible), it is supposed to remove the record from all government data bases.

Because firearms dealers in TN don't want to accept any responsibility for selling to a questionable person. TN has lots of guns because of the hunting in the state. So the dealers are very careful who they sell to. They want a yes-no answer, not conditional. And as a resident, I applaud them for their actions.
