    "Somehow" ??

The Bios battery is usually under the keyboard someplace - requires some dis-assembly.

However, a Bios battery, while it may lose settings in the Bios, usually does not lock out any HDD. HDD lockout is usually due to some HD password set in the disk, saved by the Bios. Of course, you should still be able to enter any of the passwords....

Try changing the battery, but only if you keep losing your bios settings (like date/time). If those remain ok all the time, then there's an issue with a HD password instead. Those can only be cleared by the disk vendor (prevents stolen laptops from having their disks read - even on other machines - the password is on the disk itself....)

It is a round battery about the size of a thumbnail, located on the motherboad, usually close to the processor. On a laptop you will have to disassemble to get to usually. There might be a panel access to it on the bottom of the laptop.
