What is it that people like about poetry?

I can't figure out the appeal for the life of me. I've read a lot of poetry, too, with the intention of giving it a fair chance. Can somebody offer some insights or perspective that might help me to see the beauty in what, to me, is mostly word salad?

when a person writes poetry, they are feeling way deep withing their soul (one reason why some poems may not make sense to others, and THE reason the classics need to be annotated.) Everyone is entitled to their preferences. You may not enjoy poetry; I enjoy it immensely, especially if I don't get it reading it for the 1st time, i read it a 2nd or 3rd time, and I think i understand what the person's soul is saying. Poetry is also release of creativity a person feels inside. Some draw art, some play music, some become expert sports players, and some write poetry, and yet others not only write poetry but enjoy reading those of others. hope this helped.

The beauty of poetry is the way the poet dances with words, they 'waltz' you through the dance floor, then 'Tango', maybe even a little 'quick step' to keep your attention, others 'jive' with the words, with a little 'rock and roll'.

Poetry is the written form of Art.
