No, never heard of him, and had forgotten the name Black Oak Arkansas from the 70s until reading this post. I still can't remember a song by them.

I think rock drummers don't get mentioned much because they're usually just keeping the beat. It's rare they stand out.

BQ - But of those who have stood out, Keith Moon comes to mind first, to me. And I've always preferred the incarnations of the Pretenders that had Martin Chambers drumming. The great drummers though, as indicated by a couple answers above, mostly come from jazz, I think, whether it's the old days with Buddy Rich, the 70s with Jack DeJohnette, or others I've forgotten because I just haven't listened to jazz in a long time. When I was escaping disco and arena rock in the 70s, though, and listening to all those fusion bands, I know I ran into several great jazzz drummers live and on record.

eric singer and eric carr, both formerly of kiss. I believe singer was in a few other bands.

tommy lee has always been one of my faves.

I cant believe nobody named Ringo Starr?! With as many Beatles fans on here, i would have thought somebody would have undoubtedly named him. I think his acting career was more productive. Ever seen the movie Caveman? If not, check it out. Hillarious.
