If your using Internet explorer open browser left click on tools ( upper right hand corner) then click on Internet options under the general tab I think the 2nd one down.And Firefox is pretty much the same way open browser left click on tools then click on options click on the privacy tab and set your preferences click OK

I'm using IE8 in windows 7. When I open it up then go to Tools > Internet Options. Under the general tab there is a browsing history option with a check box to delete history on exit. Try checking that. If that is not what you mean could you please expand on what you want it to do?
