How do you pronounce Ythan?

As in the river in Scotland...

I always leaned towards saying it the same as Ethan, but have recently found somewere that said it was Ithan, with a short i sound - any definitive answers here?

Update:

Thanks for your answer Bruce, I went to this site but cannot find confirmation of the pronunciation, where on the site did you find it? Or are you perhaps a local?

Sue, Ythan, as in the river, is pronounced eyethan, the y in first part as in your eye and the second part with the th soft, as in theatre, not hard as in than or then. There is slightly more emphasis on the y.

There is a lot of information about the River Ythan at www.ythan.org.uk

    Hope this helps

    Bruce
