Where does a hosting company get it's Bandwidth?

So, I know hosting companies have servers, etc. But where do they "Plug it in"? Is it just like a cable internet high-speed thing or what?

Like Google, for example, they have a big huge campus with many servers...but how do they get them Online?

Google actually acts as its own ISP. There's actually several different levels of ISPs. There's the ones you interact with, like Comcast or Verizon (this is the same level that Google connects to) and then there are the ISPs that provide the backend- basically, Comcast, Verizon, and Google all connect their lines to companies like Level3 and then those companies send the data from your ISP to the ISP of the server you're trying to connect to. It's actually a bit more complicated than that (because of all the deals ISPs cut with each other for bulk discounts and such) but that's a general overview of how it works.

Hosting companies typically use special ISPs, but people who host their own sites usually use the same ISPs as me and you- they have special (more expensive) plans that give you a static IP address (needed to host) and much faster upload speeds.
