Do you think transcendental meditation is set up like a pyramid scheme?

I don't agree with the cost of the course. I can get mindfulness meditation from buddhists for free or pay as I feel.

The TM Organization is a non-profit (5013c) organization and teaches The Transcendental Meditation Technique (TM.org) in many extremely poor countries around the world, as well as to people in need in the US.

There are Certified TM Teachers all over the US who are dedicated to finding loans, grants, scholarships to enable everyone to learn The Transcendental Meditation Technique regardless of their financial situation. Call the Toll Free number 888-LEARNTM on the website TM.org and you will find a TM teacher near you.

As far as how TM compares with other meditations here is the citation for a meta-analysis:

Eppley K, Abrams A, Shear J. Differential effects of relaxation techniques on trait anxiety: a meta-analysis. Journal of Clinical Psychology 1989
45(6):957-974

This study shows that TM was at least twice as effective in reducing anxiety as any other mental technique that had any published research and if only rigorous research was considered TM was found to be 3 to 4 times as effective as any other technique with published research. The different meditations that were considered included, but not limited to: including but not limited to: Mindfulness Meditation, Mantra meditation, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, the Relaxation Response, Biofeedback, Concentration techniques. 146 published studies were considered in this meta-analysis.

So far there have been 358 published peer-reviewed studies including 7 meta-analyses showing the superior results that occur with regular practice of The Transcendental Meditation Technique and 35 Random Control Trials (RCTs), which are considered the “gold standard” for research concerned with health treatments. Drug companies are only required to have 2 positive RCTs to bring a new drug to market! And just think of all the side effects of those drugs!

Learning the TM Techniuqe from a Certified Teacher and practicing it regularly twice a day is the best decision I ever made. Time is precious and my desire to experience benefits as soon as possible motivates me to make sure I am doing the most effective technique available. All the best to you!

I never had to pay for any courses, then again the source I used was a book written back when some people cared about more than money.

Transcendental meditation is just mentally repeating a mantra. That's it. Now, apparently the mantra they give you is "special" but its really not >_> .

Yes, TM is a scam. nuff said.

You'll get more value from cutting off your foot and beating yourself about the face with it.
