Depending on where it is, it might sound a lot worse than it is. My father had one, right behind his eyes, they removed it successfully and he was fine. Bearing in mind all of this, the operation was done probably 20 years or so ago, medicine and technology would have advanced so far in this time period, not to mention procedures and knowledge. Also, they have only just found it, meaning its an early start to getting rid of it. Chances are, your friend will be fine.

If only his dad and brother know, how do YOU know???
There are too many variables for an answer.
It depends on:
How big the tumor is
Where in the brain the tumor is located
Whether the tumor is contained, or has metastasized (spread)
What sort of blood supply is feeding the tumor
Your friend's overall health
Your friend's family history of cancer
Your friend's attitude in fighting the cancer (positive thinking DOES make a difference!)
And other factors.
Cancer is not a disease that can be easily pigeon-holed into chances of survival just because it has been diagnosed. Your friend has a good chance to survive if the tumor is not large, not near a vital part of the brain, has good overall health, a fighting warrior spirit, and cooperates with the treatment prescribed.
The chances are, though, that his lifespan has been shortened, and he will not live to be 100.
But then again, that can be said about most of us...
I wish your friend the best of success in fighting the cancer!
