what engine is better a B16 or B18 or B20 i plane on building the engine?
I plane on building up the engine and then later adding a turbo.

best bang for buck for a turbo motor? get a b18b1. that motor is build like a brick and already has a low compression ratio. throw some arp head studs on there and get a good tune and you could easily push ~15 pounds of boost safely.
b16s are great motors, but they have a lower displacement than the b18. b20s are a bit thin walled to push heavy boost.
Edit: you don't need hondata. Don't get me wrong it is a good brand of tuning hardware, but half the price is in the name. You can go with Neptune, ectune, or chrome and spend half the price or less and get the same result. Also when it comes to the effects inside the cylinder, there is no difference between turbo and superchargers. Boost is boost as far as that goes. However I strongly suggest against superchargers for Honda engines because they cause heat issues... B20s can handle low boost without issue (7-9 psi), but putting a supercharger on it is much more risky than putting a turbo on it. Lastly you can get any obd1 ecu. Once it's chipped it doesn't matter what type it is since you can load and modify the basemap.

b18b1 would be the best. then do an ls vtec, and when ur ready turbo it. you'll also need a p72 ecu(very important) and maybe even a hondata(also important). if u get a b18c then you would have to run on lower boost or get low compression pistons to run higher boost, the b18b1 comes with lower compression pistons but there not v-tec engines(very simple to make it a v-tec). the b20 engines are nice motors but they dont rev high and there build for tq more then hp. it would be nice to supercharge a b20 but not turbo...so i would go with b18b1 all the way

definitely the b18b1 for turbo which is the LS motor. they have ower compression, has the DOHC and also have longer gears which is really good for the turbo. if you change your mind and know you are never gettn turbo go b20. but never add a turbo in those or the block will crack/f*** up.

If you are adding a turbo, then do the b16 with low compression pistons.
