why is my dog eating its poop?

I have heard that if a dog does not have enough bacteria in its body it will eat its poop to try and increase its bacteria levels to a normal level.

I feel sorry for your dog. You should put her up for adoption if you can't take her out for a walk at least once a day. The only thing you're teaching your dog by spanking her really badly is having the dog feel it did something wrong (and going to poop is not doing something wrong). You must WALK your dog and be CONSISTENT in doing so, even if you don't want to. Be consistent in feeding times as well. I leave dry dog food out all day for my dog to eat whenever she wants to, however, I walk her in the morning and let her out in the backyard twice after I come home from work and once before I go to sleep. Believe me, DOGS just want to be loved and please their owners, so maybe you should look at what you are not doing for your dog instead of blaming your dog for putting her face in her own poop. Maybe she was by the door asking to go out and you ignored it or missed it.

Its usually a lack of nutrion. Food is probably the same coming out as it is going in. Try a different dog food and feed your dog pinapple it makes there poop taste bad, making the dog think twice about eating it.

Usually, dogs eat poop because they are missing nutrients in their body. I know it's really gross. My dog does it, too...Yuck! But, if you think about it, you didn't have to clean it up, right? lol

She was cleaning up after her self so you wouldn't hurt her!
