I suggest that when you buy the new harddrive also buy an external usb harddrive enclosure that will fit the drive. They are cheap and easy to install. After putting the new drive in the computer put the old drive in the external enclosure. After you install the operating system on your computer you can plug in the enclosure and have access to all your files. Or you could put the new drive in the enclosure and make a bootable clone of the old drive.

    1) yes

    2) any laptop harddrive 2.5'' or ssd

    3) take the old one out, pop the new on in there and reinstall windows

    4) back them up before on cds/usbs/external hdd
