how do I find out the rateable value of my property with regards to the water?

I've just started renting a new property, and have been sent a letter by the water company asking for my bank details so I can pay the 'rateable value of your property' for the water supply. I have no idea how much this is, so don't know whether I need to top up the amount in my account to pay it, or anything. Is there any way I can find out how much I will need to pay for my property? The water company has been no help what so ever.

Never hand over your bank details to anyone,if you are setting up a direct debit the bank would set this up. If you are in the UK,water rates are calculated on the rateable value of the property. You will be in a band A.B.C.D.if you look up on your local council website you should be able to get an idea what band you fall in. If you have rented from an agency or estate agents, they should know which band the property falls in or ask your landlord if it's a private letting. You could also ask whomever else lives in the property what they are paying.Hope this helps.
