Can I buy a Direct TV reciever and hook it up at my house without going through Direct TV?

I already have Direct TV and have 3 receivers. I would like to add a 4th one. Can I buy a receiver from someone else, 2nd hand, and hook it up without going through Direct TV? Will the card work?

If it can be done with a 2nd hand receiver, but you still have to go through Direct TV for another card or something, any idea of the price, etc?

Technically, you would be greater suitable off getting the HD receiver from DirecTV for $ninety 9. then you definately ought to apply a immediately HDMI connection. i might advise no longer something much less for a 50" plasma than a sequence of element cables. in case you utilize S-video you're rather plenty defeating the point of having a HDTV. The video you spot on your HDTV is barely as stable via fact the cables you utilize to get it there. capture the decide on the flow? improve!

You have to go through DirectTV. Call them and ask the price.
