my ferret is really stupid?

when you see it about to do its business, pick it up and put it in the litter box.

My ferret used to do that too, but then I got one of those corner litter pans and I hooked it to the corner of her cage with a small wire so she couldn't. So she started going in there, and ever since then, she always goes in the litter pan, no matter where it is. Your ferret isn't stupid, it just doesn't understand that you want it to go in the litter pan. It's not human, it won't get it right away.

Also, ferrets don't learn from spanking... That's just strange. A common way to show it how to act is to use a small water gun and squirt it at the ferret when it does something you don't want it to do. It doesn't hurt the ferret, but the ferret doesn't like it, so it eventually learns what it has to do to avoid being squirted, and then the ferret will form habits.

Have you tried using a different litter? There may be something in that litter that it doesn't like. AND WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SPANK IT!! I used a tiny water gun when I would see him backing in a corner that he wasn't supposed to. Nothing that hurt him, but he learned. I'm not saying that he didn't have the occasional oops but he was pretty good most of the time. I did the same to train my rabbit and even taught him commands to go in and out of the cage when I wanted him to. I used the same thing when my cat was doing something he shouldn't. All of them learned quickly and were rewarded when they did what they were supposed to. If you're aggressive with your pets, wouldn't you think that it would make them aggressive toward you? Animals will act out if they don't like how something is, including their treatment. I'm certain that you wouldn't want someone slapping you around every time you got frustrated with something or did something wrong. Animals are the same way. I would try a litter change and some positive reinforcement. If the animal is clearly too stupid for you to deal with without beating him, then maybe you should find someone that doesn't mind cleaning up after one.

Have you tried changing the kind of litter you use? It is possible that he just doesn't like what's in the box now. It's also possible he just doesn't want to use a litter box. Some ferrets just don't take to using a litter box, although most do eventually.

Try changing the litter i dont think hes stupid he may have a reason for not going in the potty box.

Well considering the Ferret is only a few inches larger then a mouse, I wouldn't think its brain would be that of a dogs or cats. So yeah I'm guessing Ferrets are pretty stupid.. =\
