Why Eminem continues to be the most overhyped failure in rap music?

Eminem is the first and only consistent(flow wise/not counting lyrical content) white rapper untill a ton of white guys get a flow he will always sell huge numbers. It's like if there was only one white guy doing R&B like Justin Timberlake, he would dominate because he is the only voice that segment of the population relate to. That said since when is music quality about record sales?

Where is Motzart on the charts? does that prove anything? Eminem like most rappers sings to the lowest common denominator his tracks are full of 4 letter words for gays and abuse to women and regardless of how many records he sells he will not ever be half the MC that Black Thought of the Roots is.

Eminem and alot of the gangster/flash rap out there is just homophobic trash talking and chest pounding with no soul, my car is bigger, my chain shines brighter ect. Thats why you hardly hear it on the radio a few months after it's out yet Hendrix still gets airtime.

Rappers with the real soul of Hip Hop (Arrested Development,Nas,Roots,Kanye-when he's not being a self absorbed ***,Talib Kweli,Mos Deff,Blu,Murs,MF Doom, many others that get zero attention on the radio because the truth is the industry doesnt want to believe blacks are intelligent, nor does it want to offer in-roads for intelligent music into the industry. People like Alicia Keys and Kanye had to struggle to even get signed because they wernt the usual sex and violence rap/r&b types. Thats the truth.

I bought Recovery under the illusion that he had recovered from drug abuse and actually had something thoughtful to say. Other then Talkin to Myself,No Love, and Not Afraid I felt like I was just hearing the same old mad ramblings of a love sick boy who refuses to grow up and talk about anything but his mother or his relationship with his ex-wife.

How is it this crap gets good reviews in most mainstream publications. He cant sing on any of the tracks he tries too. Seriously compare his vocals or lyrical content for that matter to Drakes Thank Me Later it's not even a contest he might flow faster but if he's still talking about gays and hating women it's hardly a "Recovery". How can a man rap about his ex-wife for 14years straight and kill her in effigy on every single album and still people arnt over it?

I hope to god some good white rappers put albums out so white kids have a decent role model/influence to listen to other then this crack head who obviously hasnt recovered at all.

Best Hip-Hop album of the year???? sorry not even close go listen to Nas and Damien Marleys Distant relatives or the Roots latest either of those dwarfs this like a NBA player stomping an ant in lyrical content, soul, passion, and style.

Feel free to pump white trash party while you drive down the road with the windows rolled down. I just hope your not headed to a job interview....2 out of 5 stars, skip it.

    A few things.

One. The Roots respect Eminem. They play with him a lot. Also, learn the name of the CD (How I Got Over). It seems like you havent listened to that CD and youre just throwing out the Roots because you heard about how great they are. Listen to them first. And if you do truly listen to them, I respect that, but know that they respect Eminem.

Two. I actually do like a lot of the rappers you threw out there, and I am impressed that you know about them. However, when you then throw out Drake...come on man. Youre basically throwing out the new Lil Wayne. At least make Drake get his own style before we start talking about him being good.

And talking about Kanye struggling to be signed. Bro, once again. Eminem struggled so much to be signed because 1) People didnt give him a shot because hes white, and 2) He says radical stuff my man. He raps about real stuff, that most people wont touch, and communicates it beautifully.

I do agree that he may rap about Kim too much, but man. At least hes rapping about real stuff. Eminem is better than any other mainstream rapper by far. And youre contradicting yourself when you say that you hate that but like No Love. Man, look at the chorus. You probably only like that because its Weezy, and that not cool. Seriously, and if you cant recognize that Eminem is probably the most socially conscientious rapper, then you have not listened to his music much. Look at some of the songs on Encore or the Eminem Show. Those were very socially or politically motivated songs. Thats much better than most people.

And youre talking about Kanye being a self assorbed a##. that just proves you go with the flow media wise. You probably havent even heard Kanye's new music. So please, listen to that and think about how Taylor handled that situation before making fun of Kanye. She handled it worst than him. At least he was drunk.

And I give Recovery 4 out of 5 stars personally. If you think Im white trash whatever, you can listen to your Drake some more eh? Throw out the Roots some more but not know their CD name, come on man. Thats pathetic

Source(s): James V...man, youre talking about Atmosphere. Thats terrible. You dont like Eminem but like Atmosphere......That doesnt even make sense. At least listen to some songs first. And I actually listened to the CD, I didnt go with whats cool. Actually, this CD is trashed by critics like you people, so why would I like it otherwise. Rather, I feel like he has good content, still has the energy and the flow is still good in all of his songs. But you guys got to stop liking people like Atmosphere and Drake if youre going to trash Eminem.

That's how the world. It's like food. We all go for processed fatty fast foods made using poor quality ingredients, yet we still eat them. Mainly because it's accessible, 'tasty', addictive and readily available and something quick to consume. But ultimately it's bad for our bodies and our souls. The good food isn't as readily accessible as fast food. A lot of time and effort goes into making good food (and can be expensive).

Also, fast food restaurants exploits merchandising just like pop does and business people see pop/rap/hip hop as gold mines because it's cheap to make, requiring little or no talent and yet people buy it and listen to it.... a lot of business people don't care about whether it's quality products their making or how the consumer benefits from the product. It's all centred around money.

    It's all about money.

Yeah and like Jason said - he always says "I just dont give a f--ck"....

over and over - talks all the time about how he doesnt care - then he says he DOES! "I dont hate women" but he does - the only reason he trashes gays too is so people dont assume he is a homosexual mysoginist!

Anyone who loves him and tolerates and defends his hatred of women and gays - explain "Insane" to me then??

How does that song work - is he making light of getting sexually abused by his stepdad or is he ridiculing victims of sexual abuse???

    enough said! Totally agree !

ps - Listen to Aussie rappers Hilltop Hoods - they are amazing.

I agree with you on most points Aaron. I don't know how people say Recovery is his best album, Infinite is the only album that doesn't get annoying after awhile.

    Next best white rapper:

I personally feel that Eminem is not over-hyped...its true his content is not the greatest sometimes but since The Eminem Show he was going down hill however he just has that undeniable flow and songs that wheter you like it or not you sing along.

but look on he bright side at least he making rap still relevant to the commercial world.
