Dogs are hunting animals and rabbits are prey animals. Do the math. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachshund Dachshunds were bred specifically to hunt badgers, and RABBITS. So, no, don't let your dog around your rabbit. If you'd like to bring the bunny inside, confine the dog to another room first. Otherwise, the doxie's gonna do what doxies were bred to do.

Dogs and rabbits can get along. You do need to introduce them and supervise. Dachshunds are hunting dogs, so should not be left alone with a rabbit.

If you think the dog could be a problem, put the rabbit in a separate room where you can close the door. Keep the door closed and the dog out unless you are paying 100% attention to the dog. You could even get a door alarm (usually for to warm parents if a child opens a cupboard), so if the door opens you know about it.

Keeping them separate and training the dog to be calm and not go after the rabbit is a must. Never leave then unsupervised.

My dog dogs get along with my rabbits. I would not leave them out when the rabbits are out and I am not around. While I do trust my dogs, things can happen.

A friend of mine had to put her rabbit down because a dog attacked him. The dog was not used to being around rabbits.

Most of the time not, as you see dogs are natural predators to rabbits, and your dog might kill her.

You can bring in your rabbit only if it is in a cage.

Daschunds are hunting dogs and rabbits are prey animals, so put two and two together.

Daschunds were bred to hunt badgers, and RABBITS.

Dogs CAN be friendly to rabbits, but only being slowly introduced to each other, and still monitored in play times.

So you can bring bunny inside (good idea it may get too hot) but still in a cage.

If you are a first time bunny owner, here is the very same info i gave someone else.

You need to change its food, water, and litter EVERYDAY. You need to use Aspen Wood Shavings, because Pine and Cedar cause respiratory problems, and in long term, liver damage.

Do research on what not to feed them, they cant eat lettuce, or celery. Here is a link to what not to feed them: http://hubpages.com/hub/Bad-Rabbt-Food-W%E2%80%A6

Here is a link to a poison list for bunnies, if i were you i would print it (It is a long list, so make sure you have ink) : http://www.allearssac.org/poison.html

Bunnies need to be let out of the cage everyday to run around for at least an hour.

You need to handle the rabbit everyday to gain trust with it, so it will love you, and not fear you.

You need to get a salt lick, wood chews, and other toys, because if your bunny gets bored, it will become destructive, depressed, and/or overweight. With my bunnies they have food and water and hay available all day.

Don't get alfalfa hay, because it contains too much calcium for older rabbits, instead get timothy hay.

Make sure you get it fresh veggies and some leaves (not poisonous obviously) 2-3 times a week, if you give it too much, it will get diarrhea.

If i were you, i would get another, because rabbits prefer to live in pairs or small groups. But be aware, if you get two males, they may fight, i would get two girls, or one boy one girl, but if you dont want babies (good idea, they have a poor chance of finding a home, and is hard to care for) get the male neutered. Get this rabbit ASAP if you want another one, because if you wait, the 1st rabbit will not like the new one and kill it.

Dont give it cardboard or paper toys, because my friends hamster died from ingesting cardboard.

Make sure you let your rabbit settle in before you go crazy with it!

Here is how to figure out the sex of the rabbit http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_can_you_te%E2%80%A6

Hope i helped and good luck!

You should bring the whole cage inside and bring your rabbit in, I have a dog and rabbits and I would be really nervous to put them by each other but my dog is a golden retriever so a lot bigger than a daschund. If you want to try to put them by each you could, just be careful

well, seeing as how my jack russells hunt them... i know mine would not get along with a rabbit, but it depends what your dog is like, does he show interest in the rabbit outside? does he wag his tail and put his nose to the hutch? or does he hold his tail high and still, is his stance poised as if ready to attack?

i think it depends on the dog, my dogs would probley go crazy if i brought a rabbit in the house. and most dogs i know like to chase them, but who knows maybe your dog will like it, try it and if the dog doesnt like it put it backk outside or in another room.

My puppy licks my bunny, then he starts chasing her!(my bunny). Try to introduce them but be very close to the bunny just in case..
