Rawk & Pawp: Can you make me a METAL FAN \m/\m/\m/\m/?!?

Just ignore the "\m/", I couldn't help myself.

I've never been much of a metal fan at all but it seems like a huge amount of people love it so I'm in need of suggestions! It can be any genre or sub-genre you'd like, it can be your favorites, a good place to start, etc. etc.

Thanks guys!

BQ: Is the soul of a liar black like poop?

BQ2: You and me babe, how about it?

BQ3: Incense: Agree or disagree?

Update:

Oh just to be clear, songs are lovely!

Update 2:

As for what I want, I don't even know, ha. I know next to shite about metal so just recommend what you like!

    It depends.

You'll find that classic metal album, and you'll fall for it. And it will shape your tastes for many years to come. For me, that album was Slayer's Reign in Blood. Give it a try. And though my tastes have grown, I'll always have a special place in my heart for chaotic, precise, and downright evil metal. It reminds me of when I had long hair and needed a daily Slayer fix to get by.

Then you have the Black Sabbath class of metalheads. These guys love doom metal, smoke craptons of reefer, usually go for the underground "lo-fi" metal, don't enjoy screaming vocals...traditional metalhead. I'm one of these.

Then you have the Maiden/Priest group. They're all about songwriting, composition, structure, etc., even if they don't know any of these words. Dirtbags and proud. Closet power metal fans.

Then you have the Metallica group. These guys like the whole package. Honestly, the most passionate metal fans I've met started out as Metallica followers. Metallica is to metal as The Beatles are to classic rock. When someone calls them "overrated" or "garbage", it only helps the smart people weed out the retards of the genre.

Then comes Megadeth. If you're a macho shredder or you're in heavy metal for the technicality, Megadeth is your kind of band. People who listen to Megadeth often branch out to extreme metal, for their standards of vocal appreciation have been significantly lowered.

Then you have the Pantera people. These guys are the dumbest, which is by no means an insult to Pantera. But these guys are psuedo-southern badass, slobbin on Dime's knob, gorilla-like retards who are right down there with Slipknot fans when it comes to intelligence. Metalheads who start with Pantera often look for a little Pantera in every band they come across. Pantera fans become Lamb of God and Machine Head fans, who become Exhorder fans, and the cycle continues. Not as confrontational as your typical Slayer fan, but 5x as obnoxious.

I could do this all day...

  • I got my friend in to Metal with the following

    Type O Negative

    Metallica

    Megadeth

    Iron Maiden

    Ozzy Osbourne

    Black Sabbath

    Judas Priest

    KISS

    Alice Cooper

    Anthrax

    Motley Crue

    Cinderella

    Slayer

    Bon Jovi

    System of a Down

and a few other Icant think of

    BQ You coudl say that

    BQ2 uh..

    BQ3 Agree

Melodic Death Metal was always one of my faves: (Really recommended ones are ***'d)

Punch Me I Bleed - Children of Bodom ***

    Gyroscope - In Flames ***

Banned From Heaven - Children of Bodom ***

Empty Me - Dark Tranquillity ***

Metalcore is kinda a bit closer to hard rock, kinda a punk and metal crossover:

The Air I Breathe - All That Remains

Whispers (I Hear Your) - All That Remains

If you want really technical yet melodic music, try technical metalcore:

Selkies - Between the Buried and Me

White Walls - Between the Buried and Me ***

Blindfolds Aside - Protest the Hero ***

The Divine Suicide of K. - Protest the Hero

    Alternative Metal/Hard Rock

    I Stand Alone - Godsmack

The Diary of Jane - Breaking Benjamin ***

    Metalingus - Alter Bridge

    Duality - Slipknot

    Decadence - Disturbed

    80's Heavy Metal

The Crimson Idol (album) - W.A.S.P.

    Jesus Saves - Savatage

    Progressive Metal

The Dark Eternal Night - Dream Theatre

    Schism - Tool

If you want to move from listening to alternative to metal, the best transition band for you will be Tool.

If you are moving from punk to metal, you might try Motorhead or Megadeth first.

If you are a fan of classic rock, then you will probably start with Metallica.

    Just my two cents.
