why did my wok catch on fire?

My boyfriend and I were making potatoes in the wok like we do often. Heated up vegetable oil in the wok ( like we've done dozens of times) but this time it got real smoky and then caught on fire. WHY did that happen? The only things we did differently was washed the wok in the dishwasher and his mom put aluminum foil under the stove burners. I dont get it

Update:

didn't mix oils

the oil in wok got really hot, you didnt stir it around enough, very little oil in wok, so it catch on fire. turn heat down a little next time.
