    Hi there

A1 or the A64 to get you into York are the best routes. Not sure about your neck of the woods with regards to Edinburgh or Glasgow?

I train at a private dojo in York

    Don't go via Glasgow!

Either A68 or A1 down the East coast, and from Newcastle the A1(M). I prefer the A1 now, as the road has significantly improved over time and there are quite a few dual carriageway places you can pass slow traffic. If you are driving a van or similar or a car with poor acceleration, I'd favour the A1 even more as you can sit at a constant speed much more easily without having to slow down and speed up a lot.

If you're going to hit Gateshead at rush hour, it may be better to take the A701 or A702, then M74, M6, A66.
