I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have sore muscles and sore joints. Please help?

I am now seeing a orthopedic doctor and I have tried all of the non opiate medication and none worked at all so now he has me on 45 10mg lortab's per month and they barely touch the pain. he is slowly moving me up but I am up all night with pain throughout my whole body. I can't work because when I do the pain gets 10 times worse. and I have times where my symptoms flair up and this is after I have already taken my daily dose. I have told him this and that is when he gradually ups my dosage.the last time I saw him he upped it to another half of a lortab a day which nowhere comes close to touching the pain that I am constantly in. so should I see another dr. or stay with him and if I do stay with him what should I say? "I need something for breakthrough pain"? also I am thinking of applying for disability, any advice would be great if anyone reading this has been thought that. Thanks

Fibromyalgia is not an autoimmune disease. An autoimmune disease is not "over-excited nerves". Look up the definitions of both conditions in the Wikipedia. I have had Fibromyalgia for 20+ years.

At first I was on opiate therapy. After running the gamut of these medications and reaching dangerous tolerance levels, I switched and went on a new drug called Suboxone. It is primarily used for opiate addiction but some studies have suggested that it can be used for chronic pain.

I am one of the successes in this area for Suboxone. Yes I still have pain. Yes I still have major flares. However, the intensity of the pain and flares has greatly reduced. I also take Neurontin for neuropathic pain caused by multiple neurosurgeries performed that left me with nerve damage in my arms. I also take Soma, a muscle relaxant. This combination has afforded me a quality of life that I did not experience with opiate pain meds.

Lortabs are not going to fix the pain or even begin to cover it. My mom was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia several years ago and has constantly been in pain for years. There are good days and bad days, it comes with the territory, so to speak. However, my mom was taking a mix of aleve, muscle relaxers, and something else. I know that the things she prefers are the aleve/muscle relaxer mix, but that was discovered after her insurance started refusing her tramadol(sp) and neurotin (sp) as meds. As far as the Fibromyalgia goes she is doing better. Another doctor with more experience in Fibromyalgia is always a good thing. Some recent findings that might apply is that it is an autoimmune disorder, which means that it is a case of overactive nerves. Also, in many cases, it can be genetic. As far as disability, it is always something to check out especially concerning fibromyalgia, as it can get worse. I do suggest that if you do consider further into the SS disability that you find an attorney that is familiar with disability cases as the SS disability office typically refuses people otherwise. I hope this helps. If you have more questions, you can e-mail me and i will try to answer it: Midnight.Blue.Eyes@hotmail.com.

In the first place Fibromyalgia isn't something you can put your finger on and say "this is it" fibromyalgia is a symptom. Yes, it's painful, I have some but, I also have osteoarthritis in the severe degenerative stages and take Vicodin for it. Surgery is now beyond my capabilities because of all the previous surgeries and now, most of it is just to late. So it's the pain now.

I could suggest a good Rhumatologist who will give you a good pain reliever, depending on your age of course. Your going to need a lot of MRI's and tests to make sure the new doc is right. Lot's of luck.

Fibromyalgia is, in my experience, a state where every tissue in the body is full of stress chemicals, trigger points, scar tissue, and metabolic wastes. This has been building since you were born, and pain killers will not do a thing to help the buildup reverse itself. There are some things that work. It takes a lot of work to get back to where you want to be (pain free) but it can be done.

There is recent research that says that Fibro may be caused by Thyroid problems. I personally suffer from both and am currently going through treatment. If you are like me, you are open to anything that will help. May I suggest you visit both links I have provided below.
