Second floor laundry room?

I'm adding a second level laundry room, and I want to have a drain in the floor in case of a mishap, it's a little of extra work. do you think it's a necessity or just a waste of time.

I've seen a few installations with several options.

You want to place the washing machine in a tub to contain the water. The tub only needs walls about 3"-4" deep. Enough to contain the water while it drains out. The tub must have a drain to the outside of the house. It doesn't have to run all the way to the ground, just outside for about 3". This will carry any overflow or leaks to the outside.

There is a device that measures water pressure going to the washing machine. If the pressure drops because of a leak, it shuts off the water at the hose. It is mounted to the shutoff valve feeding the hot and cold water hoses. If the hose breaks, the pressure drops to zero and the valve is shut off. I don't think it works at all with a leak - not enough pressure drop.

You could have a moisture sensor under the washing machine that shuts off the water supply to the washing machine at the hose bib connections.

    There are many other manufacturers.

You could add a drain if it is possible to run to the outside separate from the sewer drain lines with outside of the house without tearing out too much, I don't know the extent of your remodel (it better to go to the outside, because your trap will dry out over time). The easiest thing though is to add a device call "flood stop", the one for a washing machine, it comes with a sensor that is placed near the washing machine or in a pan, when it gets wet it has a solenoid connection at the hot and cold supplies and will automatically shut off the water, thus reducing the damage caused by a busted line or stopped up drain.

till you reside in a grass hut you may not have a topic. inspite of joist hangers it is going to be supportive. The factor partitions of the closet might help to enhance the flooring if it has hangers. A washer and dryer with a load isn't that plenty weight. If it doubt get 2 friends to bypass interior the closet with you. Your mixed weight is larger than the applying load. bypass away the plywood. As for the different underlay verify with manufacture adhesives or grout for their innovations used with the tile. Tapping right into a sink drain may be easier than a bath in spite of if it is plausible.

No it is not a waste. IF it ever leaks and it goes on your rugs, wood floors and flows down the walls .You will wish you wasted that time and installed the drain.
