When you get your rooming assignment, contact your roommate and coordinate with her.

Some things that you can split between yourselves and share the cost so one of you isn't spending the most money: (by "split" I don't mean go halfsies. I just mean that you both bring at least one big-ticket item, i.e. fridge, TV, microwave, etc)

    small fridge (A MUST)

    TV

    DVD player

    Area rug

    floor-length mirror

    microwave

    Floor lamp

couch (if there's enough room and one of you has one)

loft (if one of you wants to purchase a new or used one - these allow for more floor space underneath the beds)

garbage can (school usually provides at least one, but you might want to bring one along, just in case - one may not be enough, especially if you bring back food to your dorm room. Lots of garbage)

If you have a private bathroom: (suite floorplan)

    shower curtain

    shower caddy/shelf for the shower

cleaning supplies: toilet brush and cleaner; disinfectant wipes; shower cleaner; glass cleaner; paper towels

Note: check the literature/pamphlets the school sends you about Residential life, or your school website under "Residential Life" or some close word, for guidelines on what you can and cannot bring. Many dorms/residence halls ban toasters, toaster ovens, hot plates, microwaves over a certain wattage, fridges over a certain wattage, and certain lamps because of fire hazards. Check to see if your items are allowed.

    Good luck!

It relies upon on the college and the dorm itself. some are militia barracks form with an area bathing room. Others are outfitted with loos in each and each suite. In a 2 mattress room suite, that's an open area that often finally ends up in a bathing room or communal bathing room, yet that relies upon on the dorm. privateness there could be reminiscent of sharing a mattress room. You call the place of living hall in case you recognize the place you would be staying to ascertain in this. as quickly as I transferred to Ohio State from an area college, I wasn't required to stay in a dorm, and opted for an condominium with 2 different adult men that provided a great style of privateness. do you may stay interior the dorm for scholarship motives?

You generally don't need two microwaves or two TV's, but you both might want your own mini fridges. My roommate last year and I only had one, but pretty much all my friends and their roommates each had their own mini fridges. You probably won't have room for two full-length mirrors, so if you want one, decide who's bringing it. It's also a little silly for you both to bring whiteboards for the outside of the door - either agree on who's to bring the whiteboard, or both bring one and decide whose goes outside. Keep the other one on the inside for roommate communications (if you try to do this with the outside board, your messages will be erased and/or obscured by drawings of penises).

If you think you might want to put an area rug in your room (we had one, it was kinda nice), you only need one of those. You generally only need one floor lamp if you're going to have one at all. These are things you should go get after you move in and see how much space you actually have, though. Maybe hit up a local thrift shop for a small table to put in the room? My suitemates did that (just make sure you agree beforehand who takes the table with them at the end of the year).
