What will the Peralta trade do for the Tigers?

I have been upset for the past few years since the Tigers have been very passive in free agency and trading. However, this year seems to be different. They signed Johnny Damon and now traded for Peralta. His numbers aren't that eye-popping, but I don't know much about his offensive ability.

No Peralta isn't any good and Detroit looks to me rolling on the floor already this divison race will most likely be against the Twins and White Sox unless they can get on a tear but that does not seem likely.

Peralta will hit for a decent average, around .290 and hit around 15 homers per season. He will help fill a void on the infield but the Tigers have bigger problems than that. Namely, they need another starting pitcher and with Ordonez out they still need another big bat. Teams will continue to pitch around Cabrera until there's another dangerous guy in the lineup. Right now there isn't.

I really don't see any benefit to it at all and he can't even spell his first name right.
