Greetings over the phone in japanese?

I was watching this show and all of the people were answering with something like "mush-mush".

Is that like a slang word or something? What does it mean? Is there anything similar to that?

The correct answer is "もしもし" (moshimoshi). It means "Hello", and is to be used over the phone, as a greeting phrase.

That's "Moshi moshi". Japanese greeting to answer a phone call.

Equivalent to "Hello" in English. But it does not mean "Hello" at all.

No other use other than phone calls.

That's "moshi moshi" for "hello" on the phone.

"moshi moshi" is also used to address the other person whom you do not know the name.

I think you mean Mushi Mushi and it's like Hi.
