What is globally going on with so many oil leeks being reported?
Has there always been many minor leeks, just never reported, or could there be something else going on?

There have always been oil leaks since oil production began. The problem today is that with the vast quantity of oil that is required for transport and industry it has become necessary to transport oil via huge pipelines and in massive tanker ships both of which are potentially subject to accidents. Also due to the increasing demand for oil we are constantly seeking new sources to tap into and many of these are in incredibly difficult places to exploit, for example the Gulf oil well that has been spewing oil into the sea is over a mile below the surface which stretches our technology to its limit. Just try to imagine it, the drill has to be over a mile long just to reach the sea floor even before it starts boring thousands of feet into the ground.

there have been so many screw-ups by so many company's and businesses involved with extracting/processing/ delivering/ selling oil and oil by-products it is useless to try listing them all!!
There are more and more people aware of oils repercussions in the environment, on social stability, and with political maneuvering to control source locations abundant in it.. it is now impossible to silence them.. if the news doesn't make public disclosure the people abel too will.
Maybe making the atrocious affects of oil and it's by-products on our habitat, our earth, our lives known will wake a few die hard consumption gluttons up to the long term consequences of continued reliance on it... maybe we CAN as dependents, ween our own selves off it, and all the harms it causes... maybe.
putting the earths public in an alternative transportation other than oil appears to be the underling motivation to making public the many consequences of continuing to let oil dominate our global pursuit and exploitation of it.. we'll see i guess.

Read the bible, its all in there, you know about the rivers and oceans turning to blood (which is what oil looks like in water). It is going to get worse, much worse.
