90 eclipse weird problem?

90 eclipse (first design has sat for years --just put a engine in it and all kinds of new goodies -problem is when trying to crank it over with key it will not crank nor does the fuel pump come on --but if you jump across starter it cranks fine and fuel pump comes on --any ideas?

    Generally speaking, when you turn key to start position, current is sent via a small wire, to the solenoid. This energises an electro magnet, which then completes the circuit between the 2 heavy terminals. Check to see if this wire comes live when you turn the key, although it sounds like this isn't happening.Check you are getting current to the ignition switch. No current to switch, or no dash lights coming on, mean you have no supply and therefore will have no power to ignition coil or fuel pump.

    This problem could be the battery or the starter itself. This same exact thing happened to me and it turned out that my starter was bad. So you should get the battery and the starter checked out.
