When it comes to speed, which is better, Solid-state drives or regular hard drives?

If I'm not mistaken,

Solid-state = slow write, fast read

Hard Drive = fast write, slow read

?

Update:

It's for a laptop (MacBook Pro).

Does it make any difference?

    SSDs in most cases have faster read and write speeds. With no moving parts are more durable also.
