Paraplegic and having leg spasms...?

Hey folks...

So, I've been a T5 paraplegic for over a year now and all of a sudden I'm having some pretty intense spasms in my legs. I have minimal sensation and have only had very small occasional spasms until the last few weeks - at times, my spasms are so ridiculous that I fall out of my wheelchair (and my balance is pretty good, it's not that I'm just a helpless cripple!)... I DON'T want to wear a seat belt or a leg strap and would really prefer to minimize the spasms... anyone know what could be causing them, or a pharmaceutical-free way of dealing with them?

Thanks!

P.S. I'm not looking for a cure for my spinal cord injury, please don't email me with home remedies... thanks!

see your neurosurgeon or neurologist. Sounds like you need to be on some anti spasm med.

Source(s): I am a T6 para due to spina bifida and a surgery. I get spasms in my stomach that have been diagnosed as myocolonic seizures.

I'm not a doctor and think you should talk to one, but I am dating a paraplegic and when he gets intense leg spasms it can be a sign of a UTI and antibiotics usually do the trick!

probably a question for your physical therapist. if you dont have one you should probably have someone a friend or family member stretch you regularly.
