If this income is enough to have you owe more than $1,000 with your tax return next April, then prepaying isn't exactly an option, it's a requirement. The next due date for estimate taxes is September 15th.
Florida doesn't have an income tax so the only concern for you is federal taxes. Income taxes are based on your total income for the year less your deductions (or standard deduction of $5,700 for most single people or $11,400 for married couples filing jointly, if that if higher) and a personal exemption of $3,650 for you and dependency exemptions of $3,650 for each qualified dependent.
The 2010 federal income tax brackets are here: http://www.moneybluebook.com/2010-federal-income-t...
Next, if your consulting income is more than $400 for the year, you will owe self-employment taxes. These are similar to the Social Security and Medicare taxes that are withheld from your pay when you are an employee but you are the employer and employee so you pay both halves. For SE income up to $106,800 this year, the rate is about 14.1% (the nominal rate is 15.3%, but since you don't pay SE tax on your SE tax, the real rate is lower).
To make a payment on or before September 15th, you need to fill out and mail Form 1040-ES (3rd quarter coupon) to the IRS. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es.pdf The instructions give the mailing address, which for those in Florida is Atlanta, GA.
I hope this helps.

Florida among few states where you do not have to file Annual Income Tax Return. However, you need to check the law of the Fl Dept of Revenue to see how to meet the tax obligations.
In some states, you have to register with the Dept of Revenue and obtain permit to conduct your self employment business (consulting). I suggest that you visit Fl Dept of Revenue and check what kind of form to file. Or call the Fl Dept of Revenue and ask about their tax rate or fees.

on a 1040ES
you will report this other income as self employment on sch C and if the net amount is $400 or less there will be no self employment tax, sch SE, approx. 15.3% of your 'net'
these forms are available on www.irs.gov
