You have your calculation on price, but remember to inflate your tyres to the proper pressure if you are going loaded, higher pressure is required and you save on fuel consumption.. consult manual or online data
Reduce pressure when you are empty, if you run tyres to high when empty, you lose grip.
If you are using roof racks or anything then you are stuffed on mileage, it is drastically reduced

420 miles @ 35 per gallon = 420/35 gallon = 12
Cost = 4.5 * 12 = £54.
This assumes you maintain this pretty good mileage for a 1.8 engine and there are no long delays.
If the car is heavily loaded you will use more fuel.

I would reckon on a full tank, about £80
Using your figures:
420 miles / 35 mpg = 12
12 x £4.50 = £54
But also your time, wear and tear etc, How much would a taxi cost them?

Ask a taxi driver what they would charge for the round trip and you could calculate from there what to charge them - remember your time is also included!
