Do you think that caution laps should count with less then 10 to go?

I've always hated watching the laps count down during a long caution at the end of a race. The green white checker rule has helped but still many tracks can not offer much racing in only two laps. It worked well at the All Star Race this year and think it would be great for the racing week after week.

After reading the other answers, I can see both points of view. However, I have always subscribed to the thought that not counting the caution laps with less than 10 laps to go would allow for a more exciting ending to the race. There nothing worse than walking from a race feeling that you got cheated out of an exciting ending. As for the crew chiefs' planning...I guess they would just have to adjust to that as they do to everything else that happens unexpectedly towards the end of the race.

Either count caution laps for the whole race or don't count them for the whole race. Not counting them for the last 10 laps just doesn't seem right, if you're not going to count them, then do it for the whole race.

No.. as long as the race did not go over 20 laps over the scheduled distance . this would allow a to finish under green yet keep the race for lagging on.

You make a good point, but in my opinion, all caution laps should count. The crew chiefs build their strategy on laps in the race. But NASCAR does a good job of throwing the red flag if they have a big wreck to clean up late in the race.

I agree with 10 to go don't count the caution laps, you feel cheated when that happens.

I agree with you. it would be much more exciting for the fans if they didn't count them if under 10 to go, or even perhaps 15, depending on the track.
