Recently moved to KC. Looking for a singles scene, but...?

I'm more into the coffee-and-conversation rather than the drinking-and-dancing scene. Anyone know of any good spots to hang out at?

There are good spots all over, but KC is pretty big, and interests vary wildly. A few suggestions:

    * Find a group with shared interests. Young Friends of Art is a group of professionals in 20s and 30s with an interest in art looking to meet people, with a lot of activities at the Nelson. I see there's also a Young Friends of the Library. In fact, just search for "Friend of <interest> Kansas City" and you might find something.

    * Speaking of art, First Fridays is a good event in the Crossroads to meet art enthusiasts.

    * It's cliche, but church is a good way to meet singles, if you are at all religious.

    * Got a favorite coffee house? They'll have a calendar of events - keep an eye on it. It's like the bar scene, but sub caffeine for alcohol, and the music isn't as loud.

    * Take a class! Communiversity is a great place to find short classes in a variety of interests, and the people who go there are likely to share that interest.

    * For all of this, don't just go looking for singles to hook up with. Look for people to make friends with, who can then introduce you to their friends, etc, expanding your social circle.

The Crossroads Art District sounds like the area youd want to hang out in. And Westport during the daytime but after 8 p.m. it turns into the dancing and drinking scene.
