why is Harry Reid trying to rush Kagan's confirmation through the Senate?

He knows full well that Elena Kagan is one of the least popular Supreme Court nominees in recent memory... And, he knows that if he cannot FORCE a vote on her confirmation prior to the August recess – before the American people have a chance to express their opposition – Kagan’s support in the Senate could crumble.

    There was never any real opposition to her on either side. Anything you saw on TV regarding opposition by the GOP (as weak as it was) was political posturing.

    She is well liked and well respected by both sides.

    She is certain to be confirmed. She is, in fact, quite popular. In reality, there is little opposition to her confirmation.
