Can I go to School in Massachusetts and teach in CT?

So I live in CT and I would love to teach here too, but I want to go to a school in MA. It is a good teaching school, but would i be able to get my teaching certificate to teach in CT? A friend of mine thinks I would have to get my masters in CT before I can teach...does anyone know?

Yes. When you graduate you would have a teaching cert for MA . If you get a job in another state that cert would work initially but you would need to apply for a cert from the state you are in. The process may be slightly different by state. For me..I went to school in WA. I was originally hired with a WA cert, applied for an AK cert and was issued a temporary. I then had two years to complete AK history and an AK culture awareness class. After those were completed I received my full cert. You also may have to take the PRAXIS if you have not had it and in some states the state equivalent of the PRAXIS

Here's a PDF that has the requirements for teaching in CT: http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/pdf/cert/obtaini...

Look at page 4 and it explains that people who get a teaching degree in other states may be eligible for certification in CT still. What you should do is contact the state and ask them if they'll accept your credentials if you go to whatever school you're planning to go to.

Most states which are next to each other have reciprocal agreements where you can be certified in both states without much extra trouble. Indiana and Ohio have an agreement, but an Ohio certificate requires a class in Ohio history. It is probably something very similar.
