Does Queen Elizabeth II still go out horse-back riding?

I know that she has not ridden in the Trooping of the Colour ceremonies for a decade or more (using a carriage instead). But does she still ride for pleasure when out at Balmoral or is she too old now?

The photos below shows her riding last year at the age of 83.

She actually gave up riding at the Trooping not because she was too old but because Burmese, the horse she had ridden for that ceremony for 18 years, was getting too old. She had had perfect confidence in Burmese, she didn't have another reliable horse that was used to being ridden sidesaddle on a big ceremonial occasion, and she didn't feel up to the whole enterprise of training up a new horse to the same 100% reliable standard, so she stopped riding at the Trooping.

She still goes riding for pleasure, but for pleasure she has always ridden astride, not sidesaddle.

Yes The Queen does still ride horses when off duty

No doubt she will be out riding today at Balmoral.

She hasn't ridden for some years, due to advancing arthritis, but still loves to be with and is very knowledgeable about horses. Philip also no longer rides, but enjoys driving carriages.

Incidentally, as others have pointed out, in standard English, 'riding' as an activity presupposes that the animal carrying the rider is a horse. In Arabic, I suppose, it might be necessary to differentiate between a horse and a camel.

PS - I see the loony voters are out. Lese majeste to suggest a touch of anno domini? Takes all sorts, I suppose...

    Interesting discussion!

I can jolly well assure you that Her Majesty The Queen no longer rides for pleasure - much to the disappointment of Prince Philip.

I doubt it but you never know. When a person in Britain goes riding it is assumed that it is on a horse.

Yes she does in private and normally has one or two riders with her in case of an accident.

This website has a picture urther down in the article showing her riding rather recently and with another rider beside her.

The vaginal area is stimulated by horse riding.. my guess she needs something to excite her.
