how to get wall paper off wall?

Does anyone have any suggestions to get very difficult wallpaper off?

We've tried hot water with fabric softener; wallpaper remover with all the tools and nothing is working very fast. Day two and still don't have a complete wall finished. Possibly been on 20 years. (Now I know why I papered over it 10 years ago)

Try using a clothes steamer and apply at the highest setting. As it wrinkles scrape right away or else the glue will reset. If you don't have a clothes steamer rent a wallpaper steam remover. I always had good luck with mine. You can also go on-line to Ebay Auction and bid on one or directly buy it if offered by the seller. Good Luck!

Very labor intensive job! Once your wall area is completely soaked I have used just dish detergent with water mixed and started soaping up the wall. What is necessary is to break the bond of the glue and paper. If the outer paper peels off and leaves the underside tannish type paper backing then next using a Sprayer bottle mixture of water and white vinegar and soak the walls paper backing. This should lift off very easily from the drywall. I suggest that you use a plastic type scraper for easy lift and peeling so as not to damage the drywall. The room may smell of vinegar while using this mixture but once dried the vinegar smell is gone and your wall are really disinfected too! After you are down to the bare surface drywall give your wall a good wash of water and dish detergent.. Let the walls air dry thoroughly and you will be ready to begin the remaining step of your project paint ot dare I say wallpaper again!

i found best way is to use a 1 gallon garden sprayer with warm water in it. I first peel off the outer layer if its vinyl or go over it with the spike balled thing if its real paper. then spray the wall and go over it again every minute or so. Takes at least 3 wettings before it gets real wet. I then use a stiff scraper and push on the blade towards the wall with one hand and push forward with the other. This gets 95% of the paper and glue off per pass. If the scraper is gouging the wall you did not center the pressure, move your hand away from the gouge side to balance the pressure. Once you find the sweet spot where you dont gouge the wall it goes fast.

I dont add anything to the water, just makes it harder to clean up the walls when done.

The best way to get wallpaper off a wall is to follow these steps: 1. Use a scoring tool (it looks like a pizza cutter with spikes) you can get one at any home hardware store for peanuts. 2. Run the tool every-which-way all over your wallpaper. 3. Fill a spray bottle with blue windshield washer fluid and spray this all over the wall. Wait 10 minutes. Sray a second time and wait 10 minutes. 4. Peel and scrape the paper off the wall. It comes off easily. Don't use fabric softener like some people will tell you to. It's slimy and hard to get off the walls after and if you want to paint, it'll keep the paint tape from sticking to the wall and your latex paint won't apply properly. Enjoy your new wall!

Home Depot and Lowes sell low cost wallpaper steamers. They work great and are easy to use,and the paper comes off fast. Worth the money!
