Why are there so many people of Amerindian decent in Mexico?

What makes the colonization of Mexico different that there are so many more Amerindian or mixed race Amerindians as compared to the USA or Canada?

Below are the numbers from the CIA world factbook so you can see the basis of my question.

Mexico Ethnic groups: (CIA world fact book)

mestizo (Amerindian-Spanish) 60%, Amerindian or predominantly Amerindian 30%, white 9%, other 1%

Canada Ethnic groups: (CIA world fact book)

British Isles origin 28%, French origin 23%, other European 15%, Amerindian 2%, other, mostly Asian, African, Arab 6%, mixed background 26%

USA Ethnic groups: (CIA world fact book)

white 79.96%, black 12.85%, Asian 4.43%, Amerindian and Alaska native 0.97%, native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.18%, two or more races 1.61% (July 2007 estimate)

note: a separate listing for Hispanic is not included because the US Census Bureau considers Hispanic to mean persons of Spanish/Hispanic/Latino origin including those of Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican Republic, Spanish, and Central or South American origin living in the US who may be of any race or ethnic group (white, black, Asian, etc.); about 15.1% of the total US population is Hispanic

Update:

Thanks for your answers so far. Can anyone include sources?

The Spanish mixed extensively with the Natives, not only in Mexico, but in all of what is now Spanish speaking Latin America.

The Spanish settlers didn't come en masse like the English settlers did. they were large enough in numbers, but not large enough to nearly wipe out the Native Population as what happened in America. Thus many Amerindians mixed in with the Spanish people not only in Mexico but in all of Spanish speaking America.

Before the Spanish conquistadors came to Mexico, the Aztec people had a vast empire over there (the last Aztec emperor was named Montezuma). The point I'm trying to make is that in Mexico & downwards to all of South America, the Natives were more advanced then those north of Mexico. They built cities with temples, roads, pyramids, etc... & as for the Natives north of Mexico, they lived in tribal communities with simple tents & primitive cabins, etc... the Natives in the south were more prosperous & therefor had more inhabitants. Perhaps that's why in the south, the Amerindians (as you put it) are plentiful compared to the north.

It is mostly notion by means of so much official anthropologists that Native Americans crossed the land bridge that existed among 10 and forty,000 years in the past. It is totally intricate to get DNA samples from Native Americans on the grounds that they suppose it's going to damage their spirit to have their DNA validated. All the recommendations appear to exhibit a robust connection among Native Americans and peoples very similar to the Alyuts, and Dolgans of north jap Russia.
