Liquors for a wedding reception....?

.. my party store owner is recommending some top shelf booze for my son's wedding reception, but my budget won't allow all top shelf. Below is what he is recommending, I am looking for a "second" shelf alternative. Not bottom shelf, garbage, or well booze, something decent but maybe not the best. Any of you knowledgeable out there able to help? I will award 10 points. Thanks.

Gin - Beefeater

Tequila - Jose Cuervo

Rum - Captain Morgan

Vodka - Absolut

Whiskey - Jack Daniels

Scotch - Johnnie Walker Red

As far as Tequila and Vodka, I enjoy Sauza Tequila and Either Smirnoff Vodka or Gordon's Vodka.

I'm not too familiar with the others.

    I have to second Eric.

There is no such thing as a successful top shelf (or second shelf) wedding reception. They will drink you out of whatever there is to the point of behaving rudely, no matter how well dressed they are. The idea is to make it last as long as possible, which means providing cheap swill. They'll drink and like it and call you a cheapskate when it's gone. Top shelf would be an embarrassingly brief flash in the pan, leading to surliness, grumbling, and generalized curmudgeonism.

I suggest making it a pay bar instead of open bar if you go top shelf or second shelf, but then they will curse you for making them pay for the good stuff. There really is no way to win with a wedding reception- the ungrateful b*stards.

Good luck. Suggest elopement for your next kid.

Edit: Most towns have professional bar services (as do many reception halls). You hire them, tell them your budget and they offer both top shelf and a well alternative. They can do open bar or run a pay for bar. They worry about tips, cutting off uncle Louie, letting people know when last call is or when they run out, etc. They handle all the grief and the guests complain about them instead of about you. Seriously consider one of these (I'm not kidding about how ugly people get at receptions).
