I'm going to be an accountant. How much more money could I make if can program with Java?

On my way to being a CPA, but I'm taking a Java class this fall. I have an understanding of relational databases and I'm wondering if there is a good way to leverage that.

I know this isn't what you were looking for but I don't see the connection between the two. It seems to me that whatever time you spend programming will take away from the time necessary to become a really good CPA.

Being a good CPA isn't easy. Without meaning to insult your intelligence, but our laws change all the time and it will be a big part of your job to keep up with all the changes. And if you open your own practice, you'll be responsible for marketing and advertising yourself and your practice. Plus all the office politics?

And programming is no piece of cake either with changes and upgrades and technology changes always happening.

I suggest you decide on what turns you on and concentrate on becoming really good at that. Preferably better than most others. If you made a mistake choosing to be a CPA, give it up and find something else. Maybe something related that you can use what you've already learned as a springboard.

In answer to your question, I suppose you could add programming accounting software or personalizing customer software for your customers, but I don't think Java would fill that bill. Am I wrong on that? Unless you pay others to do the actual programming, I see it as cannibalizing your time in becoming and maintaining the best CPA business you can be.

Sorry. Maybe someone else who has experience with Java can prove me wrong, but I kinda doubt it. :-( My crystal ball sees you as becoming mediocre at both CPA and Java programming if you don't concentrate on becoming really good at one.

Are there websites where people can bid on small Java programming jobs? I suppose you can look into those and get an idea on what you could make on the side if nothing I said works for you.

Maybe you're just not confident in the amount of money you can make as a CPA? If you're smart in business, there's virtually no limit to what you can make as a CPA. What I would suggest you study instead of Java is selling, advertising, marketing, and especially strategic alliances and joint ventures. If your college doesn't cover those two last subjects, I'd suggest you read and study all the good books you can find on those two subjects. These subjects will help you make lots more money than you'd ever even dream of making as a Java programmer second job. Guaranteed. :-) And you can take that to the bank. :-)

hard to show what certainly the finest of all is. That reported, for a beginner who desires a shallow examining curve, i ought to recommend Javascript. the subject is which you purely would desire to realize some basic HTML and CSS so that you are able to apply it, besides the indisputable fact which you will greater often than no longer learn all of them ingredient by ability of way of ingredient, and a understanding of HTML is rather useful to boot in have an know-how of how internet pages paintings.
