If I define AWA Wrestlers as those Wrestlers who wrestled in the AWA for any reasonable length of time and never held the AWA World Heavyweight Title, I would probably have to go with Harley Race, who later went on and bacame a 8-Time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Harley Race and Larry The Axe Hennig were the AWA World Tag Team Champions early in their careers.
Other Great Wrestlers who wrestled in the AWA who should have been AWA World Heavyweight Champions included Larry The Axe Hennig, Ray The Crippler Stevens, Baron Von Rasche, Sgt. Slaughter, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, Dick Murdoch, Jesse The Body Ventura, Big Van Vader, Scott Hall and Ken Patera.

My opinion, Colonel DeBeers.
Excellent wrestler and all-around in-ring performer but more importantly, he was an outstanding heel. The fans DESPISED him. His sneering "superior" attitude and mannerisms, his racist promos, his refusal to wrestle "black men" (anybody not white), his refusal to have "black" referees (anybody not white) officiating his matches, his political views (which made it into his promos); everybody just hated DeBeers.
Verne Gagne had a goldmine in DeBeers...and didn't push him to the moon. With DeBeers as AWA Champ and some credible face opponents (not like the aging and past-their-primes Sgt Slaughter and Jimmy Snuka), and Gagne building up his own stars, the AWA might have survived a little longer.
DeBeers would not have out-drawn Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Sting, but the AWA probably could've lasted a little longer with him as Champ.

...big porn mustache Scott Hall was the AWA champion he lost it to Curt Henning. I would probably say that The Trooper should of beaten Living Legend Larry Zybrisco for the belt. I mean come on he was more over than Cena is today.....
And I will never ever get over the crazy Jerry Lawler vs Kerry Von Erich feud....my goodness what a mess.

I guess if hindsights 20/20 it looks like they missed the boat with DDP.I mean he became in the distant futue the flag ship guy for the WCW later on,but he wasn't title material then so he's out.
Colonel Debeers I guess as it seems like he was able to have great matches and looked like the fans really was into him during his time there so I guess I probably go with Debeers.
