Why is my laptop not reading my SD card adapter?

I've never had any problems w/ the SD slot on my laptop, but now it won't recognize my card adapter. I've used this same adapter before. I've also read that if the card was used in a different laptop it may be a virus, but it was working fine on my laptop immediately after being inserted into a different computer. I most recently used the adapter with a different micro SD card from my phone then switched back to the original that I keep in my camera. Would that affect it? Either way how do I fix it?

    Go to the control panel then system go to device manager-Sd host adapter-right click uninstall it and restart your computer that should solve your problem

    Yes indeed it will work, since pretty much when you put it into an adapter you turn it into a regular one
