I'd say his numbers are generally borderline, and when you factor in that he was a first baseman with those stats... NO, sorry. His offensive numbers pale to other 1st basemen (Bagwell, Thomas, Thome, Delgado, McGriff, Palmeiro, etc) so to get in, he'd need to be REALLY good at the glove, and he only got 3 Gold Glove awards... Keith Hernandez had about 10 at 1st and he's not in.

    I mean, on Baseball-Reference.com:

His Black Ink score is 7 (HOFer is 27)

Gray Score is 51 (HOFer is 144)

So he rarely led (Black) or was near the top (Gray) any offensive categories during his career.

His HOF Monitor score is 68 (HOFer >100), so he likely won't be elected anyway.

His HOF Standards score (essentially, 'Most HOFers reach certain career milestones. How many did HE get?) is 39 (HOFer is 50).

His 10 most comparable players are Will Clark, Edgar Martinez, Mark Grace, Cecil Cooper, Paul O'Neill, Keith Hernandez, Steve Garvey, Bobby Abreu, Don Mattingly and Wally Joyner. None of them are in the Hall.

So, good player (REALLY good) but not great. Not HOF-worthy.

Making the Hall of Fame is about more than stats. Without knowing who this player is to get the whole picture of his career I cannot answer...

In your thinking, the answer must be yes.

In the big picture, without a name and knowledge of the total package, too difficult to say yes or no.

Add: Olerud. Good player but not HOF worthy - sorry.

  • Though these are good stats, I don't think it's quite enough.

Edit: I remember John, the thrill of this highly touted baseball player. I wanted his rookie card so badly! I'd get the pack, hoping I'd open up his card. Never happened, loved the guy. I was a big fan of his, I'd like to see him get the shot and knowing who he is now, I can see it happening.

Those stats are good but the HOF always has tough competition to get in. He would be considered a longshot to get in. Only the best of the best get in the HOF.

i don't think its good enough. Remember, this is the hall of fame we are talking about. The best of the best. i don't think those stats are in that category.

Edit: ohhh i know who this is. very tricky :) but im not changing my answer. the name of the person shoulnt affect anyones answers.

No, those are decent stats, but not overwhelming or worthy of the HOF.

He got those stats in how many games played? And did he use steroids?'

EDIT: now I say yes he could make the hall of fame. probably not 1st ballot but he could make it in.

I don't think those numbers alone would get you in the hall of fame.
